EmberSafe is a fire prevention solution designed for high-risk wildfire zones. As part of a class project, I assisted with the product development and research to design a smart detection system that protects homes during wildfires. From researching users and analyzing market gaps to mapping out operational flows and designing financial models, I approached this project as both an engineer and a designer—balancing feasibility with human-centered design.

Project Overview
EmberSafe is a wildfire protection concept designed in response to the Palisades and Eton fires in Southern California. This case study explores the business strategy behind launching a proactive fire-retrofitting startup—spanning branding, market analysis, product development, and strategic planning.
Our team developed:
A visual identity and business narrative
Competitive and SWOT analysis
A roadmap for product features and service delivery
A basic financial pro forma and MVP web prototype

Our Proposed Offerings
We focused on high-performance, fire-resistant technologies that could be bundled and installed together:
Intumescent Paint – expands under heat to insulate walls
Fire-Rated Glass – multi-layered glass to block heat and smoke
Graphene Coating – lightweight but heat-resistant (cost-intensive)
Smart Roof Sprinklers – remotely activated through app interface
Digital App Dashboard – monitors fire zones and activates systems
Research & User Pain Points
Through secondary research and industry scans, we identified a lack of full-service retrofitting solutions. Most companies only sell materials—few offer both products and installation.
Key Pain Points:
Homeowners don’t know what products they need
Installation is complicated or left to the user
No centralized or trusted provider exists
Insurance doesn’t always incentivize retrofits

Why It Matters
The rise in catastrophic wildfires has exposed California’s lack of fire-resilient infrastructure. With insurance providers pulling out of high-risk regions, homeowners are left vulnerable and underserved.
EmberSafe fills a critical market gap by offering a one-stop service for fire-retrofitting homes—making cutting-edge safety solutions both accessible and installable by professionals.
